About CITB

CITB is a whole-of-industry led organisation that provides support to attract, train and retain South Australian building and construction workers by providing leadership in training and skills development.

The CITB:

  • provides access to subsidised training for apprentices, their employers and workers in the industry;
  • promotes and supports careers in construction;
  • advises the SA Government on industry training;
  • supports training, innovation, research and planning;
  • attracts our future workforce through vocational training in schools by supporting the doorways2construction™ program.

Short Course Training

The objective of CITB’s Short Course Training program is to raise the level of skill in the construction industry workforce by engaging Eligible Persons in training and skill development activities. CITB facilitates training opportunities and endeavours to ensure that CITB funded training meets both quality standards and industry requirements.

Each financial year, Eligible Persons with an approved CITB number can obtain up to $3,000 of training subsidies off any CITB endorsed short course, with a CITB endorsed training provider.

To obtain the short course subsidises, an approved CITB number must be provided to the training provider upon enrolment.

Courses Eligible

TLILIC2015 - Licence to drive a medium rigid vehicle
TLILIC2016 - Licence to drive a heavy rigid vehicle
TLILIC3017 - Licence to drive a heavy combination vehicle
TLID0015 - Load and unload goods/cargo

Courses Duration

TLILIC2015 Licence to drive a medium rigid vehicle: Theory(2-4 hours) and 10.5 hours practical
TLILIC2016 Licence to drive a heavy rigid vehicle: Theory(2-4 hours) and Automatic/Synchromesh 10.5 hours practical or Road Ranger 18 hours practical
TLILIC3017 Licence to drive a heavy combination vehicle: Theory, TILE (if required) and practical
TLID0015 Load and unload goods/cargo: Theory and practical in classroom 9 hours

Course Content

To satisfy CITB funding conditions for your licence you must complete the unit of competency.
The unit of competency consists of two (2) components, theory and practical.
Upon receiving deposit payment, you will be supplied a study guide and a student assessment book.
This must be completed and handed back to Courtesy Driving School at a minimum of three (3) business days before your practical assessment is to commence.

Payment

Deposit is required upon booking to secure your training.
Final payment will be due three (3) business days prior to practical booking.

Subsidy Process

  1. Student pays course in full upfront
  2. Student competently completes training and assessment.
  3. Courtesy Driving School uploads course completion documentation to CITB Portal.
  4. Once approved CITB pays the subsidy directly to Courtesy Driving School.
  5. Courtesy Driving School then reimburses the student for 90% subsidy amount granted. 10% is retained for administration purposes until 31st December 2025.
  6. From 1st January 2026 Courtesy Driving School will then reimburse the student 100% subsidy granted.

Important Information About Subsidies

  • The CITB subsidy is not intended to cover the full cost of training.
  • Must have a current and valid CITB Number when booking.
  • Full payment is required upon booking, in line with our payment terms and conditions.
  • To access funding, students must complete and submit the theory component of the relevant unit at least three business days before the course start date. If not supplied prior, this will affect your time scheduled for the practical. Which you may then require to schedule extra time which will be at an additional cost to the student.
  • Upon successful course completion, students will receive:
    • A Certificate of Competency for licensing purposes (Services SA)
    • A Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit

CITB Subsidy

Upon successful completion and approval granted by CITB, the following could be supplied from CITB.

TLILIC2015 Licence to drive a medium rigid vehicle $355

TLILIC2016 Licence to drive a heavy rigid vehicle $485

TLILIC3017 Licence to drive a heavy combination vehicle $1,065

TLID0015 Load and unload goods/cargo $100

Important Exclusions

CITB will not fund courses that:

  • Have not been successfully completed
  • Attract HECS-HELP or State Government funding, such as Fee-Free TAFE or training under a Training Contract
  • Are delivered exclusively for one business or enterprise and are not generally available to eligible industry workers
